A Word from Dan Cojanu

Well…It’s that time! With CARE House of Oakland County handling everything for the Canine Advocates program and our new Canine Advocates Coordinator, Cortney Carl in place, it’s time to hang up my leash.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of so many folks.  First and foremost, Cindy Stanton.  In 2008, Cindy approached me with the idea of this program and volunteered to take our first canine advocate, Amos.  Without her vision to help young children going through the court system, none of this would have happened.  My wife, who kept me going throughout the many ups and downs Thank you Kathleen.  To all my friends at Leader Dogs who supplied us with these magnificent dogs and of course, the puppy raisers who put so much into our dogs, thank you.

A big thanks to all the judges, prosecutors and CEO’s who welcomed our program and had the foresight to see the impact our canine advocates could make.   To the 1FUR1 Foundation and the Michigan Crime Victim Foundation that supported us for many years.

And last but certainly not least, the owners and handlers. You opened your home to care for these wonderful dogs and used them in your work site for one reason, to help the littles.  You are the true heroes of the program.

I realize I’ve missed many folks but to all, my heartfelt thank you.  The Canine Advocates program will continue to grow due to the support of those who know the impact our wonderful dogs have!
