Circle of Friends 2020
Ms. Denhollander spoke about her personal history as a victim of sexual abuse, which she has detailed more fully in her new memoir, What is a Girl Worth?, and stressed how much she was helped by the adults in her life who believed her and took action when she disclosed abuse – and how much she was hurt by the adults who did nothing.
In addition to her appearance at the luncheon, Ms. Denhollander also spoke to a group of students at Seaholm High School in Birmingham. It was an incredible opportunity for kids and adolescents in our community to hear firsthand how deep the struggle can be to find one’s voice in the face of adversity, and how powerful that voice can be.
This event couldn’t have happened without the help and support of a host of individuals and organizations. We’re especially thankful to event chairs Tracy Nystrom, Anna Rea and Anne Weiner; Roz and Scott Jacobson for hosting the Preview Party at their beautiful home; the staff, faculty and students at Seaholm High School; and the sponsors who made the luncheon possible.
