Inside CARE House: The First Rooms for Children
When children come to CARE House, especially for the first time, they often stay for a few hours. It’s our job to take every step to make sure they feel comfortable and safe while they’re here.
Before an interview, a child gets to spend time in a specially-themed, age appropriate environment. It’s a place to get comfortable at CARE House, while the grown-ups who will take part in the interview get a chance to talk separately.
Each child is met by a friendly face - a volunteer who will play with them or whatever is best for them to spend the time. They also provide snacks and water. Each room is decorated for the age of the kids who will be there.
The youngest children spend time in a room themed like the beach.
Older kids enjoy a car/city theme.
Teenagers are in a room decorated with art that has them in mind.
CARE House appreciates the service of dozens of Child Assist Volunteers, who serve as a concierge of sorts for the children, who immediately connect with these friendly adults. Child Assist Volunteers accompany kids during what could be an otherwise intimidating experience. This allows CARE House to help when it’s needed most.
